Counselling & Psychotherapy
People sometimes choose to have therapy because they are experiencing difficulties and distress in their lives. Sometimes people can feel isolated, but at other times, even when a person has the most caring and supportive family, they can find it difficult to explain why they may be feeling anxious or depressed. Some people hold the belief that therapy is for people in crisis. You do not have to be on the verge of a crisis, or in crisis to benefit from therapy.
Psychodynamic theory regards early life experiences as formative of the way we understand and relate to ourselves, other people, and in social situations. Psychodynamic therapy involves some exploration of early life experience and uses this to understand how the past relates to the present as a way of generating insight and self-awareness.
Therapy is a time set aside each week for us to look at what has brought you to counselling. This may include talking about your life, past and present, relationships with parents, friends, feelings, emotions, sex, ways of thinking, and patterns of behaviour. I shall endeavour to do my best to support you to look at what you are struggling with by offering you consistency in our work, containment, care, genuineness, a non-judgemental attitude and empathy.
I offer a safe, private, and confidential space, where you will not be overheard, or disturbed.
At our first session, confidentiality and our working agreement will be discussed in more depth.
